CAPRPRORIOUS: March BowChikiBowBow

The unseasonably warm weather has had a dramatic effect on the local fly fishing for carp scene  For one thing the river has turned into quite the sausage fest.  You know, there is a whole lotta swinging er um...fly lines on the water.  Over this off-season I have probably bumped into a grand total of 3 other anglers.  On Friday I ran into 6!

I also saw quite a few scenes from "Carp Behaving Badly".  We get random mini (false?) spawns virtually all year on my home river due to the massive water temperature fluctuations and this is not the first time I have seen a female carp or two shake her booty in March.  I witnessed quite a bit of risque behavior today though.  For shame ladies, it is March after all!

The carp ladies aren't the only ones feeling frisky with the heat.  The biking path was lined up as far as the eyes could see with joggers in bikinis.  OK, in order to not increase the previously lamented sausage fest I will admit it was one pair of joggers in sports bras way off in the distance.  Either way it was a sure-fire sign of the begging of the end for this prison we carpers call winter.  I even got pictures.

You expected bikinis?  This is Fly-Carpin and that would be creepy.

  3. The red amnesia wrap on a trouser worm does have a itsy bitsy orangish glow to it in sunlight but I think it is mostly an illusion of lighting and underwater photography. Colors always come out odd underwater. Maybe that is what the carp see, maybe it is the camera, I don't know.

  4. Awesome! You guys are lucky, and John and Mr.P will agree. So saying, being on the front of massive air masses you could get a March snow like nobody's business, not that I wish such a thing, wink. I'm kidding, hope the weather stays nice.

  5. Can't decide between "nice work" and "bite me!"

Water temp at 42 degrees and counting out here.

  6. Don't worry John, as Gregg pointed out we are just at the beggining of the Colorado spring rollercoaster. This week felt like June, it will probably feel like January with a blink of an eye. March is historically our biggest month for snow.

  9. That first picture really is bad ass!! Now that I am back in town, I think it's time to check on my favorite carp spots and give the trouser worm a go!

  10. Ty and BFA - Thanks fellas. I sometimes feel like I am just scratching the surface with my underwater camera. Things are so much touchier under-water, pics can come out really kinda cool or just useless with not much in between.
