Big C 2012 Frantic Prep

Oh yeah baby.  Going back to the Big C (Columbia River) with John Montana from Carp On The Fly on Thursday.  Hoping to get me a whole lotta this:

And who knows, maybe some o that:

But first I gotta do up bunches and bunches of the others:

Soft-Hackles carp flies in a variety of weights and sizes:

Except one of these is not like the others.  Eventually boredom kicks in whenever I tie up a bunch of the same thing and something different just flows off the vice.  I have no control over the impulse.  For now we will call it a rubber soft-hackle.  As per Fly-Carpin policy it gets a goofy name if and when it proves it's mettle.  Between you and me I already have a good one picked out so here is hoping.

  1. That'll fish. All of those flies are money.

And good lord was that fish a pig. I remember holding that monster...let's get some more like that!

  2. When I looked up your rod was bucking like 4 feet on every head-shake then I think, "wow that is a big fish" and then had to look back down to unhook that "other" fish and when I look back up a couple of minutes later (NOT 45!) you had what looked like an elephant in your net. I will never forget it was one of my favorite fishing moments ever.

  3. Nice. Those flies look great. What hook are you using on those? Man, can't wait to hear the reports from you guys about this trip.

  4. Those will fly! I've yet to put mine to the test well, but I always intend to. Gosh, the Big C isn't that far away from me, but neither is Blackfoot Res. Anyway, cool new tie and can't wait for the reports.

  6. My guess is the Gamagatsu SL45 bone fish hook Ty. Too expensive for me but I quess the very best chassis for most carp flies.
