Bimini Twist for Carp

I use the Bimini twist to attach my tippet to my leader for carp or any other big fish on light leaders.  The Bimini twist is a 100% knot and when tied correctly it will always be stronger than your fly connection.  The opposite is true for most other tippet knots.

I read a story about somebody losing a very special carp at their tippet knot recently so I finally got off my butt and made a video to show you the process.  It really isn't that bad and may save you a trophy down the line.

  1. Oh my goodness, that is not an impossible knot, but I would want to tie several in advance and at home. I do not doubt its efficacy. I use a triple surgeon's loop on a leader that began as a std. tapered leader that I modified with decreasing segments of tippet material, ending in .015-.017 Maxima. The tippet of 1X or 2X is also a attached with a tripple surgeon's loop as well. I have not lost a fish yet but have had the tippet fail to snags. When I find my 30lb. fish and lose it to a knot and not my stupidity I'll come back to this and do it right. That was a great video that explained it very well, glad it's here for reference.

    1. I used to tie my own leaders too Gregg. Liked it allot, just found that I got sick of picking up too much cottonwood cotton here in CO. All the knots down to the tippet can be surgeons with no risk of course. Its just the tippet knot that is in question and you might be pretty bullet proof at 1X in particular.

  2. It isn't definitely an easy knot but I'll practise because it's very annoying to lose a large specimen at the tippet knot. Thanks a lot for sharing it! Quite easily understandable directions, great video! Thanks a lot for sharing it.

    1. Thanks Jorge. I will defenitely never be a TV personality though, that took many takes. Not because I can't tie the knot in my sleep because I can now but because I kept on screwing up the talking part. Or the dog would walk up and whine in the middle!

  3. Ok, I may have to give this thing a shot. I had a couple of double surgeons knots fail when I was fishing with Miles. Great video. And that shirt you're wearing is way, way cool.

    1. There is nothing like combining carp and current (even the relatively low level current you guys had) to let you know where your knots stand! Thought you would dig the shirt, I had to get in charachter stinky hat and all.
